Bryant Group is partnering with The University of Texas at Austin in seeking applications and nominations for the position of Chief Development Officer in the College of Education.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Dean and serving as a member of his leadership team, the Chief Development Officer will play an essential leadership role in advancing overall fundraising for the college and, in doing so, position the college as an important and significant component of the recently launched What Starts Here capital campaign at UT Austin. To date the college has raised nearly 70% of its $90 million goal and has the potential to raise more than $100 million in the campaign that will conclude in 2026.

The Chief Development Officer will lead in the development of a comprehensive fundraising plan that optimizes the best of the College of Education’s resources, which include an outstanding faculty, committed alumni and a university development program that is well-resourced and on the rise by every measure.

The successful candidate will be an exceptional fundraiser and colleague, leading and furthering the growth of the College of Education’s individual philanthropy team through strategically growing and cultivating a portfolio of high-net-worth donors. They will have a high level of emotional intelligence and will be a collaborative, steady, organized and experienced leader with demonstrated success closing six- and seven-figure-plus gifts. They will marshal the expertise and talents of the College of Education’s faculty, Advisory Council members and other donors and volunteers to secure resources for the school’s top-ranked faculty, researchers, students, programs and centers.

Position Description
Serving as the Chief Development Officer for the College of Education at UT Austin, the successful candidate will plan, lead and grow all aspects of fundraising and comprehensive development initiatives, with a specific focus on donors with a capacity of $100,000 or more.

The Chief Development Officer will be expected to:

  • Carry an active portfolio of 25-75 prospective donors, solicit gifts and conduct executive prospect management meetings alone and with the Dean and other college leaders to optimize time with donors. Within 12 months of start date, consistently produce $3,000,000 – $5,000,000 in personal productivity per year, rising to $5,000,000 – $7,000,000 by the end of the third year.
  • Grow current fundraising totals from approximately $10 million per annum to at least $15 to $20 million per year through strategic fundraising initiatives, including, but not limited to, increased solicitation of major and principal gifts, growth of corporate and foundation funders and development of robust and highly proactive planned giving programs.
  • Work collaboratively and proactively with University Development to further the fundraising efforts of the College of Education, partnering with colleagues in Major and Principal Giving, Planned Giving, Corporate Relations, Foundation Relations and Annual Giving to increase the reach and penetration of the college’s prospect base as well as create and nurture a culture of philanthropy within the College of Education and its constituencies.
  • Serve as a member of the Dean’s leadership team and be involved with the strategic planning and achievement of the College of Education’s mission. Establish and maintain strong and mutually beneficial relationships with external contacts and constituents on behalf of the college.
    Establish and communicate fundraising goals, provide leadership on major and planned gift cultivation and solicitation strategies, and provide regular performance evaluations for the College of Education’s development team.
  • Work closely and in collaboration with the Director of Strategy and External Relations and the Director of Marketing and Communications and other members of the leadership on initiatives that enhance the college’s reputation and visibility externally and among UT’s donors.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7+ years of experience as a development professional
  • Proven track record of closing six- and seven-figure plus gifts
  • Ability to build significant relationships with new and existing donors
  • Ambition and skills to strategically grow a successful team
  • Experience with a comprehensive campaign in a complex setting such as higher education or health care
  • Ability to travel throughout the United States to engage prospects and donors
